AVG anti virus sends update which crashed Microsoft Window's PC.

AVG, popular anti virus software provider has acknowledged that the computers running the 64-bit version of Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system could be freezed if users install the latest anti-virus software update from AVG, which was made available to users Dec 1.

A patch by AVG can send some 64-bit Windows 7 machines into a crash cycle, forcing a reboot of the computer from which it never restarts, caused by one particular virus database update, which automatically forces the computer to reboot in order to let the update take affect. Upon restarting, the computer will register an error and will not complete the boot cycle.

Trefis Team comes up with their estimate of "Most Valuable Software Franchise" for the year 2010, according to them, Microsoft’s Windows Operating System emerged as the single most valuable software business segment in 2010, followed by IBM’s Middleware.

If we compare with their previous analysis(Nov 09), IBM’s Middleware topped the chart with at $103 billion followed by Microsoft Windows OS's at at $101 billion.

According to security consultancy Armorize, Hackers managed to attack the most popular ad networks of Microsoft's and Google for a brief period this week which directed the clicked users to malware content.

The attacks which lasted for few days were started around Dec. 5, directed victims who clicked on the ads to malicious Web pages. Which installed backdoor program and controlled victims PC and some asked to by bogus security products.

Show its presence in the cloud computing, Microsoft bagged a major cloud computing project from US govt worth $ 27 million.

On Wednesday, Microsoft had announced it has signed an agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide cloud-based applications to the federal agency's approximately 120,000 employees for a period of three years.

According to Microsoft, almost half (50 percent) are Xbox Live gold subscribers

At the Credit Suisse technology conference, Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Division CEO, mister Dennis Durkin had a Xbox Live statistic to share with the audience.

According to that stat, 50% of all Xbox Live users pay for a Gold Subscription. Which means 12.5 million worldwide pay $60 year for golden subscription. There are around 25 million Xbox Live subscribers in the world.
