Microsoft's Windows 1.0 celebrates its silver jubilee.

Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft had announced Windows v 1.0 on Nov 20th, 1985 at Plaza Hotel in New York in style. Yesterday it celebrated  its 25th birthday.

Windows 1.0 was a 16-bit GUI OS. Windows 1.0 featured:
  • Limited multitasking of existed MS-DOS programs
  • Windows 1.0 runs a shell program known as MS-DOS Executive.
  • It included graphical Calculator, Calendar, Cardfile, Clipboard viewer, Clock, Control Panel, Notepad, Paint, Terminal, and Write.
  • All windows were tiled. Only dialog boxes can appear over other windows.

System requirements for Windows 1.01:
  • CGA/Hercules/EGA (listed as "Monochrome or color monitor")
  • MS-DOS 2.0
  • 256 kB of memory or greater
  • Two double-sided disk drives or a hard drive
